Telkomsel offers eSIM, but its general English prepaid eSIM page lists KITAS validation for foreign citizens obtaining a new number. A visitor with a passport should confirm eligibility for the exact tourist product and sales channel. Neither “every tourist can order it” nor “tourists can never get eSIM” is a reliable blanket answer.

What the official tourist pickup FAQ establishes
Telkomsel asks customers collecting the tourist SIM to bring their confirmation email, passport and phone IMEI. That pickup instruction does not establish that every tourist offer is downloadable as an eSIM. Ask the seller to confirm the product format, registration steps, collection point and local number before ordering. Keep those requirements separate from a travel provider's installation instructions.
Compare data for your whole Indonesia trip
For mobile internet, compare Cellesim Indonesia eSIM packages by allowance, validity and listed partner networks. Cellesim and Telkomsel are separate providers. Do not assume that an Indonesia travel package uses Telkomsel, includes an Indonesian number or has the same registration process as a local line.
Write down every island and stop on your itinerary. Read the selected plan's coverage information and ask support about a location that matters to you. Mobile service can vary by location; a country listing does not establish coverage on every trail, boat crossing or remote beach.
Plan data around your activities
Maps and messaging, frequent video calls and laptop sharing create different needs. Use your phone's recent usage as a starting point. Download maps and entertainment beforehand, decide whether cloud photo backups should wait for Wi-Fi, and check hotspot terms if another device will share the connection. Compare enough validity for travel days as well as hotel nights.
Before departure and after arrival
- Confirm eSIM support for the exact handset and that the phone is not locked to another carrier.
- Check when the purchased package starts counting its validity period.
- Install on a reliable connection and save the provider's instructions offline.
- Choose the travel line for mobile data, then apply that provider's roaming settings.
- Check home-line call and SMS charges separately. A data package does not guarantee bank-code delivery to your existing number.
When a local number matters
