Frequently Asked Questions
First, make sure your phone can use an eSIM and is not carrier-locked. Then, choose a plan that covers Turkey. Follow the instructions with your order to install it, and check when the plan begins. The networks you can use and the amount of data you get depend on the plan you buy.
Yes, you can set up your eSIM before you leave, as long as you have a good internet connection. Just check how your plan starts: for some, installing the eSIM and the plan starting are two different things. When you arrive, follow your order instructions to switch to the eSIM for your mobile data.
Before you buy, check which networks your plan uses and look at the coverage maps for where you’re going. Signal strength and speed can change depending on your phone, buildings, the landscape, and how busy the network is. Good coverage in a city doesn’t always mean you’ll have a signal in the countryside.
Our data-only eSIMs give you internet access but not a local phone number for regular calls and texts. You can still use apps for online messaging and calls. If you plan to use your home SIM for calls or texts, check with your carrier about their rates and rules.
Open your eSIM details in your Cellesim account or app to see if you can top it up. Before you buy more data, check how much you’ll get, how long it lasts, and where it works. If you can’t top up your current plan, you can buy a new one and follow the setup instructions. Don’t remove your current eSIM unless our support team tells you to.
Yes, a data eSIM provides the internet you need for messaging and calling apps. How well they work depends on the app itself, the mobile network, and local conditions. These internet-based calls are not the same as standard phone calls or SMS, which data-only plans do not include.
Check the coverage map for your whole route, especially if you’re visiting rural or mountainous areas. A plan with a strong signal in a city might have a weak one, or no signal at all, in a valley or remote spot. It’s a good idea to download maps and booking information while you have a connection, just in case.
Before buying a travel eSIM, check your phone’s exact model and where it was sold to make sure it’s compatible and not carrier-locked. For your usual SIM, ask your carrier if your plan includes Turkey and what the charges are. If you have a compatible dual-SIM phone, you can use a travel eSIM for data while keeping your usual number for calls, depending on your carrier’s terms.
Please read the plan details to see which networks it uses before you buy. Different plans connect to different local networks, so don’t assume every eSIM for Turkey will use Turkcell, Vodafone, or Türk Telekom. Your connection also depends on your phone and the signal in your location.
You shouldn’t assume it is. Turkey is not part of the EU/EEA free roaming area. Some carriers might include Turkey in certain plans or as an add-on, but you must check. Before using your usual SIM, ask your carrier about the data limits, fair use rules, and charges for Turkey. Then you can compare that with a travel eSIM for the same amount of data and trip length.
About Turkey eSIM
Turkey eSIM: Travel Data Plans and Trip Guide
Compare Turkey eSIM plans for Istanbul, Antalya and Cappadocia. Check data, validity, installation timing and coverage before departure.
Current plans start from $3.59. This is the total price of the lowest-priced available package, not a daily rate or the price of every data allowance.
A city break or two weeks across Turkey?
For Istanbul, keep your accommodation address and airport transfer information available offline while setting up. A longer journey through Cappadocia and Antalya needs enough validity for domestic travel days as well as sightseeing. Do not assume a city network listing guarantees reception on every rural route. If you cross to Greece, check that Greece is explicitly included in the selected plan.
Prepare access to your eSIM before travelling
The UK FCDO reports restricted access to some eSIM services in Turkey and advises checking with your provider before travel. Confirm the current conditions and save your order instructions and support details before leaving. This does not establish that all eSIMs or Cellesim are blocked. Turkey is outside the standard EU roaming area, although individual home-network contracts may include it.
How much data for 7 or 14 days?
Planning examples, not measured usage averages: multiply your own daily allowance by the number of travel days, then add a buffer. The examples below are calculations, not packages offered for sale.
| Assumed daily use | 7 days | 14 days |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 GB/day | 3.5 GB | 7 GB |
| 1 GB/day | 7 GB | 14 GB |
Choose a package with enough data and validity for the full trip. A 7-day package will not cover a 14-day stay even if it has data left. Add laptop sharing, video calls and cloud backups separately; review hotspot rules and any fair-use speed limits.
Before departure and after landing
- Check the exact phone model and regional version for eSIM support and carrier unlocking.
- Read the selected package’s activation rule before installing over a stable internet connection. Installation and the start of validity may be different.
- On arrival, select the travel eSIM for mobile data and follow its roaming/APN instructions. Turn off data roaming and automatic data switching on the home line.
A travel data package does not automatically include a local phone number, voice calls or SMS. Keeping your home line active can still incur its own charges. Check these separately if you need banking texts or conventional calls.
